In the National League, it's Pujols without a doubt.
In the American League, and being a Yankee fan I hate to say this, I gotta go with Manny Ramirez.
They are both lights-out hitters, who continually make even the best pitchers pay dearly for the slightest mistake.

I say the best hitter in the American League is Alex Rodriguez and the best player in the National League is Albert Pujols.

There are many power hitters (Pujols is perhaps the best of these), but there is only one Ichiro Suzuki. Don't let all those singles fool you - his speed gets him in scoring position just as easily as hitting a double or triple, and he gets quite a few of those, too.
Getting 200 or more hits for five years in a row (and counting) should mean something.
