Yes, it should be clear. When it happens you will know. It feels like a pop and then it gushes. And it's not like it just pops and empties, your body keeps "rehydrating" for the baby. My water broke at 9:30 and I did not give birth until 2:30 and it gushed alot when I would sit up. The nurse said it was natural. You will know.

spellcheck would be nice. Brakes are what you have on your car.
If your water breaks, you'll either have a trickle which will feel like you are peeing pretty much non-stop (it may come in spurts or drips) OR you'll get a big burst that is so obvious, you'll have little doubt.
It is normally clear but if the baby has pooped inside, it may be green or black. ANY color other than clear needs immediate attention, but then if your water breaks, its time to go to the hospital or call your midwife anyway.

Frankly I have never watched my water or anybody else's water brake, as a matter of fact I didn't even know water could do that and for the rest of your question do you mean pre-gangrenous? it is an awful condition...

my water broke in a supermarket. i barely made it to the bathroom. it truly leaks pretty bad. it's like a stream of water that doesn't stop. it should be clear and if it's not and it's green or something like that then you have to go to the emergency room asap. don't worry you will know when your water breaks. you will have your pants soaked within minutes.

Trust me, when your water breaks, you'll BE WET. My cousin broke her water in our living room e-z boy and we had to have it cleaned. It was just regular looking water though.

If everything is ok it should be clear and odorless...
If the baby has lacked oxygen at any moment it can be greenish...
If there's infection it would smell bad...

It should be clear, and it will gush if broken.
If it's greenish in colour, that is BAD! It means baby is stressing.
