Bring your name change documents (court order, marriage certificate or divorce papers) to your local social security office, local DMV, your bank and your employer! Do not forget to change your name with your bank and make sure you get a new atm card/credit card/and checks. Some cashiers won't allow you to make a purchase if the name on your driver's license and credit/debit card don't match. Also...notify your work so that your paychecks match the name on your bank account. That can also cause some headaches if it is not done right away.
Good luck!

Social Security Office.
BMV
When you go to the Courts to get your marriage license, they will change your name for you there, but you still need to inform other places....I also told the Post Office so I quit getting mail with my maiden name on it.

Everyone who has a legitimate reason to know your name.
Social Security, DMV, employer, bank, all creditors, etc. If you own a home or other real estate, you should probably check with whatever court keeps records of the deed. Don't assume one court will inform another.

Just had mine done last week! Drivers license, then Social Security. But make sure you take your ORIGINAL copy of your marraige license to do your drivers license. I had to wait in line a second time because I didnt know I needed the original the first time. Good Luck...and have fun waiting in line!

at least this goes for California:
Social Security 1st
DMV
Bank
Then you can do all the other stuff, like register to vote and your passport and all that.
