I've read Harry Potter, Bartamaeus trilogy, most of Tamora Pierce's books and loved them all.

Try A Wrinkle in Time, A Wind in the Door, or A Swiftly Tilting Planet? They are classics in a trilogy by Madeleine L'Engle

Try the Old Kingdom trilogy by Garth Nix. In order, it's "Sabriel", "Lirael", and "Abhorsen". They're a little bit of a mix of all three (Harry Potter, Batrimaeus, and Tamora Pierce) in the spell-casting thing, the "spirit/djinni" thing, and the girl-power thing, but it's completely original, I have never read anything quite like it. It is rather morbid (deals with necromancy) and kind of dark. Highly recommended.
Another good fantasy book is "Coraline". I can't remember the author. it's about a girl who goes through this portal in her new apartment and ends up in this world whre she has another mother who wants to sew buttons into her eyes. It's a very short book, but very fantasy-ish and definitely creepy.
"Elsewhere" by Gabrielle Zevin. It's about this girl who's fifteen and dies, and goes to this place called Elsewhere, and in Elsewhere you age backwards from the moment you die, and then are reborn.
Another one is "Faerie Wars" by Herbie Brennan. There's a sequel, but I can't remember what it's called. It's about these two boys, well one boy and one male faerie, and the human finds the faerie who is trying to escape from the evil faeries. This one also has ties to the demon thing.
Another good one is "abarat" by Clive Barker. It's about another realm called the abarat, and there are twenty-five islands, and each one has one hour of the day, so there's a three p.m., and the twenty-fifth one is like a fortune-telling island full of things that drive people insane. the first abarat book is definitely batter than the second, and I don't know if there's a third.
You should at least try to read LOTR. I say 'try" because I personally found the first one (the second one, really, after The Hobbit) unreadable. I got stuck on the part when they just left the Shire.
Hope that helps.

The best fantasy novel I ever read was Homeland by R.A. Salvatore. It is a prequel to another great novel called the Crystal Shard.

Homeland is part one of a very popular fantasty trilogy. It is an amazing story about being good in a world that is evil. It's a coming of age story like Harry Potter, but very dark and much more sophisticated. It's both tragic and uplifting. It's a great story.

Homeland is very different from other fantasy stories because it takes place in a totally different world. Now that I think about it, it took some very excellent writing to portray such a dark world. It is VERY good. So yes, go get Homeland by R.A Salvatore. You won't be sorry! This will be the BEST Fantasty novel you will ever read!

"But don't take my word for it!" You can read some more reviews Amazon.com by following the link.

Dragonjousters series(joust, alta, sanctuary) by Mercedes Lackey. The setting is ancient Egypt.Hunger, anger, and hatred are constants for young Vetch, rendered a brutally mistreated and overworked serf by the Tian conquest of his homeland. But everything improves when a Tian jouster requisitions Vetch to become the first serf ever to be a dragon boy. His training is intense, and his duty clear-cut: to tend his jouster, Ari, and his dragon, Kashet. He discovers that, because Ari himself had hatched Kashet, the dragon is different from others that have been captured live in the wild and must be drugged to be made tractable. Vetch finds he really likes and understands dragons, and soon he becomes the best dragon boy of all. He still harbors anger, however, toward the Tian invasion. Could he, perhaps, hatch a dragon, and then escape to help his people?

Mercedes Lackey's Take a Thief is the tale of Skif, a young orphan reminiscent of Oliver Twist, making his way in the knock-and-tumble neighborhood between two of Haven's outermost walls. Skif is intelligent, good-hearted and creative enough to forage up three meals a day in a place where food is scarce and kindness almost unheard of. After a chain of events leave him homeless, Skif lands in the lair of Bazie, an Faginish ex-mercenary who trains thieves...until he is "Chosen" by one of Valdemar's magical horses and becomes a Herald serving the Queen.

Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote the Mars novels and the tarzan novels. There are 11 novels in the mars series beginning with 'a princess of mars'.Captain John Carter of the Confederate Army is whisked to Mars and discovers a dying world of dry ocean beds where giant four-armed barbarians rule, of crumbling cities home to an advanced but decaying civilization, a world of strange beasts and savage combat, a world where love, honor and loyalty become the stuff of adventure. The later books are about his son Carthoris, daughter Tara etc.John carter is a recurring character in all these books as martians live for 1000 years.

Another good series is the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. The books provide an alternate take on vampires.People who are unjustly murdered call upon Artemis(Greek goddess) and she grants them a day to avenge themselves. After that they are recruited to her army to fight against evil. This series is romance based.Best of the series are 'Dance with the devil' and 'Seize the night'.

Harry Potter is always good. But the Guardians of Time trilogy is pretty good too (by Marianne Curley).

Diana Gabaldon's Ttaveler series is very good-more historical but fantasy also. The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind is AWESOME. Wizard's First Rule is the first book in the series.
