With free energy:
You could put water back in the deserts of Africa and they wouldn't have to worry about food.
People wouldn't need to burn wood to stay warm.
A space rocket could go anywhere, fuel is main thing limiting us from travel.
The reward beside a lot of money, would be eternal fame. You would be more remembered that other famous scientists because you would have to discover some property they didn't know which proved them wrong.

What do you mean "over unity?" The context is partially missing.
As for the "rewards" it always depends upon the individual.
It *is* possible to generate perpetual systems of energy, but the tapping of that source for electrical power is paradoxic if you want to maintain that system.
Rather, it would be necessary to alternate our current systems/style of power to tap a different source of main energy in order to create a more feasible and less costly system.
As for rewards, doesn't a lifetime retirement company which also funds further study and invention sound about right? If anyone is fortuitous enough to create "perpetual" energy sources, I'd think they'd want to keep making stuff, while relaxing without a care in the world in between.
Wouldn't you?

I'd use it to launch a worldwide hunt for Santa Claus. When we find him, we'd make him work 365 days a year, instead of just one, so that we could all be happy and have presents every day and no one would ever have to work ever again because magical Santa would bring everything. Whee!
Not what you wanted? Oh, I'm sorry. Since this is the kind of thing you started out talking about, I didn't think you'd mind if I continued in the same vein.

I agree with Calvin L that it is impossible. Anyone familiar with the Second Law of Thermodynamics? Entropy means that everything in the universe becomes progressively more disorganized, hence perpetual motion is impossible.

to be made to stand in front of a flywheel connected to their device and watch as it's outer edges inexorably approach then punch straight through the speed of light, while the inner parts remain at a lower speed...... simultaneously breaking the known laws of physics (though they'd already have been torn to shreads by over-unity returns) and the flywheel itself into little bits
we then get to see what happens first; the universe imploding, or the hapless Meddler In Things Man Was Not Meant To Meddle In being rent asunder by a million supra-light flywheel fragments.

The person who discovers such a phenomenon will be rewarded by the money they make selling it.
Unless they're a dumbass and let someone else take the idea from them, in which case they will be rewarded with a big fat nothing.

I would use it to give my kill bots a soul, so that they would feel bad as they wiped us out, and small saline tears would form as they killed the last of us and realized they had no purposes.. that they had consumed the last of their precious non-replenishable resource.
But perhaps they could then invent a perpetual human, which they could kill repeatedly and then watch as it rose from its grave to be killed again.
Then they could have saline tears of JOY, and for that I would be rewarded by being permanently remembered in robot song.

Why would you expect a reward? Especially money. Do it for the sake of mankind. It's when you DON'T expect the reward,it comes to you freely instead out of obligation.
