My parents would drop off my best friend and me when we were only 10 and 11, but we'd have to call and check in at designated times. Your mom will probably kill me for that and times have changed, so a good idea is to shop with your friends whil your mom is in Dillard's or wherever. Then she'll feel close enough to help you should you need it, and for you, out of sight, out of mind!
P.S. Ask your parents how old you have to be to talking to strangers online!

If you're a guy....... 15 or 16 .... a lot depends on your stature and maturity.
If you're a girl .......maybe 17 ?

However, I think girls and women should go in groups to stay safe. There are just too many things that can happen to a girl... or a woman. No matter what a woman's age, we will never, ever be as strong as a man with bad motives. It's better to be safe than sorry .... or worse .... raped, beaten or killed.
