This very question was the focus of an article in Popular Mechanics about 6 months ago. The glacier in Greenland has been melting twice as fast as it was, only two years ago. The magazine predicted if all the glaciers of the world melted, the result would be a loss of a 100 miles of coastline in from its present location, all over the world. Small islands would disappear altogether. The increase of water has resulted in a slower jet stream and cooler temperatures despite the claim of global warming. In fact, it's the greenhouse gases that are causing the glaciers to melt in the first place.

If the ice is floating in water it displases its own weight in water. Ice is less dense than cold water. If a large volume of floating ice melts, the water level drops. The Northern Ice cap floats over the North Pole (there is no land under it). Therefore the correct answer is a lot less than you think.

very very little most of the ice is under water only a small percentage is on top. If it melts what is going to fill the hole of course melted ice. most of it is a scare tactic by the kooks. Put a ice cube in a glass of water how much of the cube sticks out a very small percentage then when it melts how much does the water rise?? Very little right, its because the melted ice displaces itself. Something has to occupy the hole

gee...according to predictions.....ALL OF IT.....that is why everybody is so up in arms over global warming......
