I've donated plenty of money. To charities, people whom started small business, small countries, to researchers, etc... the list goes on.

happiness derived mainly from superficial things is bound to backfire & develop emptiness/void/etc.however, happiness derived from the stability of healthy relationships is priceless & will make one happier regardless of their financial status/although it helps to improve their lifestyle, won't necessarily improve their feelings(one example would be from the new tim burton remake of the charlie&the chocolate factory movie about a poor family who may not have a lot of material things but what matters most is that they have love & each other)anyone who is rich can easily donate money & it's another 'feel good' thing for wealthy people to do to temporarily feed their ego.donating time is more sincere & satisfying.it also depends on each individual's attitudes:whether one is a pessimist or optimist greatly affects their outlook on life & happiness.

Well, I'm not "rich" but I'm definitely well off for my area, and I'm less happy now than I've ever been. I understand your perspective on this. I worked very hard to get through my bachelor's and master's degrees and landed a great job with an excellent company with a nice salary. The entire time though, I had this idea in the back of my mind that money was all I would ever need and it would solve all of my problems. Needless to say, it doesn't, although it certainly solved all the ones I was used to dealing with. Once I didn't have potentially late bills to worry about and I was finally able to save and invest for a more secure future, my mind was free to think about the bigger picture and I had a lot of self discovering to do. I'm still in that process, so that's as much advice as I can offer. You may want to reevaluate your life and your goals, and try to focus on more than just accumulating material objects and wealth.

Happiness is in the heart - and I am a firm beliver that you have to like yourself, for others to like you. I am not saying that you are not liked - OK... Just that, you have money in the bank - Own everything you can ever imagine... worked hard all your live, but you are unhappy. Why??? You have not learned to enjoy the time you have now, for working as hard as you have. Now you need to re-learn to relax and NOT feel GUILTY about it...easier to say than do... It is a gradual thing to build up to....Talk to a family member, get to know your family all over again (yes) they may think you are strange, but hey - Strange can be good - get to know a neice or nephew - grandkids, rent a cottage somewhere (since it is summer) on a lake and invite family &/or friends to come and join you, in a relaxing time.....enjoy the simple things, a walk in a park, watching a little league game, kids running and playing in fresh rain puddle.....stop for a ice cream cone, Donate your learing experience to a school, that has a reading program, read to younsters......volenteer at a nursing home, or a handicapped childrens home or nursing home, volenteer to hold a newborn(s)at your local hospital, born to mothers that are on crack, etc. Donate your time at a soup kitchen, red cross - take the red cross class to kelp disaster victums in the past - and in the future....These are all suggestions - decided what your strengths and weaknesses are, and learn, build on them....if you are shy - volenteer - if you like to build things, volunteer at a senior citizen center and offer your services in helping our older citizens in fixing up simple things around the home. Most of all HAVE FUN - YOU HAVE EARNED IT - ENJOY LIFE FOR IT ONLY COMES AROUND ONCE, AND IT GOES BY SO FAST - GOOD LUCK TO YOU IN WHAT YOU DECIDE - I CARE.

Happiness is what you make of it, broke or rich. Money doesn't make you happy or unhappy, YOU do. Find a hobby, make some new friends, go on dates, read good books, spend time with family. These things are what life is about, not money. Good luck.

You have'nt donated any. Try donating and spread the wealth... We have no money and pray everyday. We are not happy because of no money and my health is failing is the reason. So be happy with what you got. Wealth and Health.....

I've been poor and unhappy. I think the rich kind of unhappiness might feel a little better.

That's because money doesn't mean everything in life.Money can only buy you material things.
Maybe you need something more than money:)
