please help me. When it comes to cleaning stoves I am clueless. I have a self-cleaning stove, and I do not understand how to clean it without starting a fire. I have thought about buying cleaners but all of them say not for a self-cleaning stove. Is there an easy way to clean these types of stoves. I would appreciate any suggestions. Also is their certain types of cleansers like baking soda or something to mix together to help clean my stove. Thanks for your help.

OK, self cleaning stoves are just a way to help bake the grease and gunk out of the sides and top. Here is what you do.

First, pick a day where you are going to be able to devote time to making sure you do it properly. Second start the self clean cycle, and leave it on for 15 mins, no more. LET IT COOL DOWN!!! At least 30 mins. Then get a scrubbing sponge, and then wipe the sides down. The gunk should come off easily.

There are some cleaners out there for self cleaning ovens. Oven-off makes a decent one. But is horrid for hte environment. There are other as well, I usually use the self clean and Dawn dishwashing soap that cuts grease.

Self cleaning stove - if the oven is really dirty it should take 3 to 4 hours. Make sure that you take the oven racks out first or they will turn black and do not leave the oven light on as you might damage it.

The stove should be locked for the entire cleaning cycle. It should not be unlocked until the oven has cooled down - this could take and hour. Most self clean oven have safety mechanism that don't let you unlock it until it has cooled.

Before you self- clean it though try and clear as much debris out of the oven as possible. Wipe it down and clean up and obvious grease spills. Grease spills can catch fire during the cleaning. Be prepared to open windows and run the overhead fan. If the stove is really dirty it will be stinky and smokey. I don't run it unless I know that I will be home for the entire time and I don't run it when we are sleeping. When you are finished all that will be in the oven are ashes. You just need to wipe these up with a damp cloth.

Note: If you run the self cleaning cycle with a cleaning solution in the oven it can give off really bad fumes! My grandmother did this and it takes a long time to get the smell out of the house. I don't recommend it and I don't think that it is safe.

You need to go to the website of the company who made the stove and request a manual. Self Cleaning ovens clean themselves by getting really hot and burning off the residue. You are left with ashes that you just wipe away. That is why you do not use any cleaners. You will cause a fire if you do and possibly die from the fumes of the heated cleaners.
Each stove has different instructions on how to turn on the cleaning option. That is why you must go to the manufacturer's website before proceeding to clean it.

When you open your oven door do you see a thing that looks like a latch above it (and under the cooktop)? This locks the oven door shut for the clean cycle. With you oven door shut move that lever to the right and then on the oven settings there should be stuff like bake, broil, etc... and one that says clean. Turn it on clean and be prepared for it to take about 4 hours to work. You can't unlock the oven while it's doing that and it should beep when it's done. It stinks, it's hot in the kitchen, but when it's all over and you unlatch the oven all that should be in there is ash you just wipe out. Also, there are oven cleaners, easy off has one, that say are for self-cleaning stoves, but honestly the clean setting works much better.

First, I would read the manual that came with your stove to see what, if anything, you need do should there be a small fire. If you cannot locate this manual, then go to the company's web site to see if you can download a manual. Many times it will be in a pdf format, so you will need Adobe Reader. Then see if there is a section here on what to do. In the meantime, I would try and scrape off as much of the material as I could to minimize any fire that might appear. If memory serves me correctly, some small flaming is to be expected. The self-cleaning oven basically burns everything to ash so that all you need do is wipe it when it cools. Good Luck~

On a self cleaning stove. One is you lock the door. Then you set the stove to clean on both knobs. then you should have timers to set one that says start and one that says stop. make sure your clock is set the set the timers. the lights will show that is is cleaning. when done the lights will go out and then you can unlock the doors. If you use any cleaners then you riun the self cleaning part of the oven

Get on-line to the manufacturer. I'm certain they will be happy to send you out a new manual.

Self cleaning ovens are a snap. You just take the racks and anything else you may have in there out, hit the self cleaning button, the oven will lock so you can't open it while it is cleaning, and when it is done it will unlock. It will get very hot while it is cleaning.

One thing, if you have birds, you will want to get them outside or in a room closed away from the oven while it is cleaning. If you haven't used the self cleaning function before it will burn off a coating that can kill your birds. Always ventilate well. An open kitchen window should be fine.

I recommend reading the manual for your model. The model number can usually be found in the front of the oven. Usually though, you lock the door, set the oven to cleaning mode and the more modern ones will time it for you. The lock will not disengage until the temperature has dropped to a safe level. You don't need to use any chemicals at all. It will burn everything to a gray ash and all you have to do is get a damp rag and wipe it out. I recommed that you take out your oven racks and soak them in the bathtub with ammonia and water. Sometimes the racks can lose their coating if left in the self cleaning mode and it makes it a little harder to pull them in and out. High end models have racks that are specially coated, so check your model.
