i currently have zone alarm, but once you allow a certain application, it will allow that application to get to any IP address. for example, i have firefox allowed to get onto the internet, but i want firefox to be blocked from reaching a certain IP. i tried a windows HOST file but it didn't seem to work. thanks in advance.

You can also setup deny ip list on your zone alarm. That will block inbounce and outbounce traffic.
Double click on your Zonealarm and click on internet zone, add the ip which you want to block to it.

Go into firefox options and setup restrictions using the IP address and see how that works. :)
