Just say hi, tell them your name and ask them theirs.
Give them a compliment that is true, even if it is just "I couldn't help but notice you"
Then ask them a non-threatening question like where are you from? or what do you do? can I buy you a drink?
Don't start with a corny joke or pick-up line, just be normal...or you come across as phoney and not really interested in us.
Just be yourself.

As a woman, I love it when guys tell me I'm pretty, and talk about eyes. Girls like that, at least I do. A lot of woman are insecure, build them up. It always works............
EX: Tell her how nice her clothes look today on her.....not just the clothes but on her body......don't ever say "you look like you've lost weight" as a compliment, woman read between the lines as "you thought I was too fat before?" Always compliment the natural beauty of a woman, she will want to talk you after that, and if she doesn't, she was probably to stuck up for somone as sweet as you any ways :)

I have been around a little and I found that if you walk up and say "hi good lookin" or "Damn you hot" or any come on line they know you are full of it and after one thing. I had better luck by just walking by and saying "Hi" with a smile and go on by. Come back by and if she looks at you puzzled or with a smile you are a go to say my name is ____________ hows your day. Don't ask her name that is prying and really none of your business. If she gives you her name then you are a go to chat for a while or the next time you see her.
Works for me.

It has been proven statisticaly over and over again that there is no effective one perfect pick up line. Over trial and error, the most effective conversation starter that has been varified statisticaly is:
Walk up to her and say "hi", than take it from there using something from the environment or an observation of something interesting you found about her.
