I am showing my age, Yes, but why would you want to? a modem is more expensive than network cards now. You can take the modems in each computer, using a null modem cable. (the wires are crossed) If this is something you really want to accomplish let me know, I will get technical, but I would have to read up, haven't done in years.

The short answer is yes. The long answer is, it's not worth the effort. You'd be limited to only two computers, each with a modem, and you would have to do a lot of configuration on each just to make it work. Even then your bandwidth would be severely limited. All in all... don't even try. Spend a few bucks for an ethernet NIC and cable, or go wireless.
