Well, most female dogs will go into heat every six months or so. The entire "Heat" period lasts an average of 21 days, but this may vary with some dogs.

The actual "breeding time" is only a matter of 2 or 3 days in the 3 week period, but this time can be very difficult to determine. If you are planning to mate her, and don't want to risk a "miss", there are tests the Veterinarian can do to pinpoint the day of ovulation

It is best to wait until the dog is at least two years of age before you start breeding to ensure that everything is developed and working properly. Also, see your vet to make sure your dog is healthy enough to breed and free of brucellosis.

Also, be aware that some female dogs do not want to breed and will attack the male that you've chosen, or others will willingly breed. It depends upon the dog.

Also, please be sure you've already got homes waiting for the puppies BEFORE they are born. This keeps unwanted animals from being put into shelters or being left on the street.

As a general rule the female is in heat for about 21 days.
For the 1st thru about the 9th day she will flirt and tease the male but will not stand still after she allows him to mount.
During the 10th to the 16th day is when she will be the most fertile.
The last 7 or 8 days she will be really snappy and not real pleased to have the male around her.
You will need to keep them seperate until the mid part of her heat cycle. Allow the male to visit with her at least 2 times during her fertile days. (Example, put them together on the morning of the 11th day and " WATCH" to insure they have a good lock, put them together again on the morning of day 13) You want the lock to be as long as possible, 30 minutes is normal. You can adjust the days/times the dogs are put together to fit your schedule. You will need to be close by when they lock, it is always a good idea to put them in a small carrier so there wont be a lot of dragging the smaller one around (be it the male or the female) . This tug of war can damage a males "parts", especially if it is smaller than the female. That is why the carrier is needed.
This little visit can take anywhere from 3 minutes to "begin" or up to 2 hours to "begin".
Plan to be patient, especially if you have first timers doing the breeding.
Then count for the last day bred, do not have anything planned from day 59 to day 65 that will have you away from her for more than an hour of two at a time, especially for 1st litters.
Check with you vet to be sure you know who will be on call during this time.....better safe than sorry.
It is much SAFER on your female if she is at least 2 years of age.
Hope this gives you an idea of what to do and when will be the best times to try.

NOTE You will be bombarded with criticsm from all the advocates against breeding. Just expect it.

i don't know what animal do u mean
but i can tell u about heat in animal as general
all animal have estrous cycle (except camel has follicular wave)
this cycle is divided into 1-pro estrous 2-estrous 3-met estrous 4-diestrous
animal is in heat in estrous phase where ovulation occur
and in animals ovulation differ from animal to animal as their is spontaneous ovulation and induced(occur by the action of penis in the vagina of female)
and as a general signs of heat is that it restless, produce sound, seek the male.the vagina and vulva is red to pink(blue in dog),and stand quite to male and accept it to be mated
i hope that u understand this process and u can tell me the type of ur animal and i can tell u the best time to be mated
AHA
u r talking about dogs
they are seasonal monoestrous that mean that it get into estrous every 6 month
the dog female when get into estrous it give phermone with urine and make dogs around it
and bloody discharge come from the vagina(which is blue)
after two days when this bloody dicharge stop this is the best time to let it be mated by male

You can't force them to do anything but when your cat puts her body including her butt on the ground and starts meowing while walking in sort of a circle, put the male and female together and see if they do anything. Sometimes the timing is everything, so don't feel bad if nothing happens. But still....give it a try.

You basically just answered your own question. You should put them together when the female is in heat.
