The best way is to look at the target, usually the stomach or lower. Slide your head to one side an instant before hitting the target. (If you don't it is a spearing penalty and more important leaves you open to serious neck injuries.) Watch for the play to redirect you with his hands.
Remember that football is about leverage not size. If you are lower you will move the other person.

A short fullback actually can have a tremendous advantage in blocking taller defenders. You should work heavily on your core and lower body strength in the offseason, and in the games you want to plant them square in the numbers or below while keeping your body low and your feet churning in rapid quick powerful steps to drive them. A shorter run blocker can take advantage of his low center of gravity. Hitting them hard on first contact and getting inside their arms is crucial. Most important is thing is take advantage of your lower base and stay underneath their pads.

Square shoulders off, put head to one side, make driving contact and keep your feet moving! Also, if the defender is within one yard of the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped, if you move to the line, you can low block or clip him. DO NOT clip someone who was lined up more than one yard before the snap! It is illegal and can seriously injure his knees and your shoulders or neck etc.......Third, DO NOT WRAP YOUR ARMS AROUND HIM! That's holding! Keep your hands inside the frame of his torso, not grabbing handfuls of jersey, but with palms open. Grabbing and tugging the jersey is holding too! Use open palms, shoulders, and drive your feet; those are the best ways to do it.

Your size is a great advantage. Hit them in the numbers, stay low, and drive your feet. What you need to remember is to not lunge at them because they can easily swim over you and break up the play.

Your center of gravity is your advantage.
Keep your shoulders over your knees and stay low.
Keeping your fists together, you can lock the defender by rolling up under his shoulder pads at the chest...and drive him anywhere.

Cut the defender in the knees and I guarantee that he will not rush hard the rest of the game.
