I wonder if people bother to read their God-given Bibles and then actually think critically about it with their God-given brains, or if they'd rather just listen to someone else and take what they say foregranted. The latter seems to be the case. I'd like to point out Sodom which was referenece a few times already. "And this was the sin of your sister sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefor I did away with them as you have seen." (Ezekiel 16:49-50) Let's examine this a bit, shall we? There is no mention of homosexuality or any sexual acts at all. The list is more concerned with inhospitality. Even if you want to focus on the men wanting to rape the angels...it's just that: rape. Rape is most definitely a sin. Check any other of the 5 passages people like to use against homosexuality. The general trend is "lust" and never "love". We've also established that even straight lust is unacceptable. "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" is another favorite. God also didn't just make Adam alone, but we accept single as a viable option. Assumptions via omission are some of the worst. A whole lot wasn't adressed in the Creation story. Also, the Bible doesn't have a whole lot to say about marriage itself either, and exactly how it should be done.
As for America, it's in the best interest of its citizens to legalize same-sex marriages. It would create an overall healithier environment for us without causing harm to anyone else. There is no danger of polygamy or bestiality. The definition of marriage would simply be a union of two consenting adults. Tax wise, it would also help the economy (because it would actually be costing us more tax wise). It would also be invalid to call it anything other than marriage unless you also renamed civil marriage. Separate but equal is inherently unequal. Ring a bell? It should. Civil marriage is in no way related to a religious institute. Hell, non-Christians are married all the times. I can also get a religious marriage whenver I please. The only thing I can't get is the legal rights, privileges, responsibilities and protections offered by civil marriage without going through a lot of legal processes and spending a lot of money, but I can do it, though it can then be contested.
See why we should accept same-sex marriages yet? Seen why the arguments against it are absurd?

Why should America accept straight marriages? Because everyone is doing it? Because that is how it has been in the past?
There is nothing wrong with it, but america is afraid we will overpower the straight marriages, because everyone will be wanting to do it. or so they think. There are great benefits in marriage so gays want to be married and also recognized as a married couple like straight people and they should. i am for it of course. Take a step back and look at it for a moment. Gay people tend to have more lavish lifestyles, more trips, spend more money, make the same or more than straight people, a bond between two gay people called a marriage would be good for the economy course we are already supporting it the way it is.

It doesn't make any difference if people accept it or not.
Gay marriage has been going on for a long time.
The current debate over the subject has been terribly misrepresented. People actually belive that they are voting to BAN gay marriage from happening. Not one state has done that. All the states that have had this on the ballot or in legislation have banned the government from treating gay marriage as equal to straight marriage. NEVER has it been banned outright.
So I hate to be the one to tell you this, but it doesn't matter if it is accepted or not. It doesn't matter how many people think it's wrong. It doesn't matter who all thinks it is a sin. It doesn't matter who all believes God hates it.
It's happening. It has been happening for a long time. Nobody can do anything about it.
We now need to determine that the 4th ammendment doesn't EXCLUDE homosexual people from EQUAL rights. That is the only thing that needs to be decided.
Did you know that America had this same discussion about black people marrying each other? They couldn't get married and have it recognized by the state. No... not to white people... I'm talking about black people marrying black people. Many people didn't want them to be able to get married because it solidified their rights of inheritance. If they couldn't get married and have legitimate children, when they died, the state could take what ever property they owned because there was no legal heir.
Note: some states still have this on their books... that when people die without legal heirs, the state inherits their posessions and wealth.
Bottom line... nobody has to like it, support it, accept it, or sanction it. Gay marriage is happening. Nothing you can do to stop it. It's time to treat it equal to any other marriage.
A wife beater can get married and it is equal to a good marriage. A child molester can get married and it's recognized by the state just like a marriage. Child abusers can get married and it's equal. Murderers can get married and it's equal. Adulterers can get married and it's equal. Fornicators can get married and it's equal. People who have children out of wedlock can get married and it's equal. Idiots can get married and it's equal. People with mental problems can get married and it's equal.
If the worst of society can fall in love and get married and the government sees it as equal, why shouldn't gay people who love each other have EXACTLY the same rights? Because you don't like it or don't believe in it? Not enough.

Does the phrase "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" ring any bells? They're not hurting anyone, and they don't want anything other than the same rights that every other married couple has.
The same kind of rhetoric that's condemning gays and lesbians now was condemning interracial marriage back in the 50s, and you know what? The world didn't end because a black man could marry a white woman or vice versa.

As soon as the government started granting rights and privileges based on marriage it obligated itself to recognized all marriages. The problem arises from the fact that Gay and Lesbian marriages violated some peoples religious believes. I accept that. Possibly the answer is for the state to recognize no marriages and only civil unions, remove the word 'marriage' from all laws, and require, as is done in some other countries, everyone who wishes their "marriage" to be recognized by the state to also have a civil union.

Why should we ACCEPT any marriages? A marriage is a union between two people. Why should america or anywhere else care who you are loving? Is it anyone's business? Since we need to check on who and why and how people are loving each other do we need to start making sure that all the people married are only 3 or less years apart, only of the same race, only of the same religion can get married. Why should "america" get to decide whether or not I decide to love and whom I decide to love. It has nothing to do with the government. If and when someone gets married it should be for love and love alone, and the government should not get to keep tabs on who and why they love.

The way I see it, is if two people love eachother and want to commit to one another and are serious enough to forego all the ridicule out there, then we should respect them. I'd much rather see two people, straight or gay who will honor that committment than people who have children out of wedlock or who cheat on their spouses. It's about a couple acknowledging, loving and respecting eachother and making that serious committment to eachother. On the same time, why should we accept bastard children? They can't help how they were born, and most gay people did not CHOOSE to be gay, it is just the way they are. Do you really think anyone said to themselves upon figuring out they are gay, "Gee, life will be so good now. Everyone will love and accept me, now that I'm living an openly gay lifestyle."?

So we can all move on to things that actually matter- like why housing and gasoline prices are through the roof; or why FEMA, who we rely on for disaster management, is such a management disaster; or why our kids are going to college, but still can't spell. We've got bigger fish to fry than whether or not to let the gay dudes across the street call themselves married. It's just a political tactic to get everybody stirred up, so we don't take a look at how our government is actually running.

Because it is now concluded that there is nothing pathological or inferior about homosexuality. Recent developments have highlighted more evidence of sexual orientation being determined by activity in the womb prior to birth, and the possibility of many genes (not just one) being responsible. Once homosexuality is proven to be innate, then sexual orientation will be as relative as skin colour, eye colour, nationality and left/right handedness. When this is the case, then you cannot discriminate against homosexuals.

Because the moral entity 'the United States of America' died out years ago, replaced by an econo-facist corporation of the same name, but without morality. It hardly matters what such an entity accepts.
