Practice driving around in your car with a passenger holding a wine glass (full of water of course). When you can start and stop, turn corners etc. without the person spilling from their wine glass you're off to a good start.

Plan your route, know the area you are driving in, look way ahead of where your going and anticipate any trouble in making turns

Slow down, cut your turns wide, and use your mirrors. Remember, you can go as slow as you need just don't hit anything.
