NO!!!!! You will get a better rate taking money out of the atm. But keep in mind that Visa charges 1% fees on any purchase made in foreign currency, and your bank may very well tack on an extra couple percent on top of that. You should check with your bank first

Convert some money before you go. Take some Euro's with you from the states, just for a couple of days.
Get cash from the ATM when you are here, this should give you the best rate, and usually avoids the fee per time you get money.
Try to avoid the 'little shops' in the streets of Amsterdam for they charge a lot.
Use the GWK Grens Wissel Kantoor to exchange travellers checks or dollars. Here you get a fair rate, keep in mind you also pay a fee per time you exchange at the GWK, so you may want to exchange some higher number of dollars at a time.
Feel free to pay your things with credit card where you would do this also in the States.
Some shops in Amsterdam accept dollars also, be aware they probably use a higher exchange rate.

No.. Get a little foreign cash when you land at the airport, but go to a ATM machine at a good bank and use your credit card to exchange how much more you will need. They exchange rate done by the credit card company is better than the rip-off desks at arrivals and home banks don't know anything about foreign currency and generally are high.

Take some spending money in Euro, but in general it is wise to check with your credit card company to see what exchange rate they offer... if it's decent use your card as much as possible and leave your cash at home! DO CHECK though, I know a lot of cards used to have fantastic rates, but have recently changed them!

it really does not make a difference, but the exchange places in the airports will charge you a premium rate. your best bet is to pay by credit card because then the credit card will give you a better or going rate. For spending cash, go to a bank either here in the US or over there. using the exchange stations in the airports will definitely cost you more.

I'd recommend to change some cash into Euros but also get travellers checks too.

I think it might be cheaper to just withdraw cash from an atm over there, and if you don't have a credit card, you can put all your cash on a prepaid card so you can withdraw your funds when you reach your destination.

I think you should wait till you get to the contry before you do that because our money might be worth more and you dont want to be carrying alot of cash on the plane....

Bo wat, you'll always get a better deal in Europe, but always exchange in banks which charge a lwoer fee, or use your ATM card which is the best bet.
