personally I think we have more important things to worry about like poverty, war, healthcare, the economy, issues facing everyday Americans. Gay marriage... let gay people get married, who I dont understand why its such a big deal who marries whom. Its a "throw away" issue used to distract people from bigger problems

no.
if you allow the government to define marriage, it won't be long before they think they have to define everything (which they pretty much do now anyway). the writers of the constitution left the things that affected the internal affairs of a state (like marriage) in the hands of the state because people in Delaware don't know what life is like for people in Arizona and therefore shouldn't have a say in what Arizonians do. problems are always solved better on a local level rather than a national level. the states have legislatures; they can determine what marriage is or is not within their own borders.

Not at all. The states are more than competent to determine their own marriage laws and I can see no rationale for incorporating discrimination into the constitution.

Why? Give a non-biblical reason why there should be such an amendment.
And for all you "marriage is scared" folks, then why shouldn't divorce be illegal? Why is it acceptable to get married, then get divorced 2 months later?

The states should decide for themselves. That decision should not be binding on any other state.
