Almost all males are infertile, but fertility in females is possible. About half of females are fertile.

So yes, it's possible, but it's not exactly common. More are infertile than fertile.

It's not really clear why most males are sterile, but I would suggest that the trisomy 21 condition (people with Down's syndrome have an extra 21st chromosome - in most cases, anyway) somehow interferes with the inactivation of the X chromosome in males, which leads to infertility.

Down's Syndrome is a human condition. It doesn't occur in animals. In any case, having too many chromosomes can be just as detrimental as not having enough. Mules have an odd number, meaning they can't make sex cells properly (this requires an even number of chromosomes) - this is true of most hybrids, and is the reason they're usually sterile. However, very rarely you will get a female mule that is fertile and can produce a foal if bred back to a male horse or donkey. There's no record of fertile males, though.

RE:
Can people with Downs Syndrome reproduce?

Yes they can. The chance of a woman with Down Syndrome having a baby with Down Syndrome is theoretically 50%. There is one documented instance of fertility in a male with Down Syndrome; the mother also had Down Syndrome. The pregnancy miscarried about half-way through.

I don't think so. The Down syndrome is a genetic alteration, in which there are xxx chromosomes in the sex-determining gene, instead of xx (female) or xy (male). Therefore they would not be able to split and recombine properly, thus determining the subject's sterility.

Of course they can!!! They have the same reproductive systems as people without down's syndrome, and go through puberty in exactly the same way as any other person. The fact that they have an extra chromosome 21 doesn't change that. Their condition means that they have cardiac problems, learning difficulties and look a bit different, as well as being generally very affectionate. It is important though to protect them, because of their learning difficulties, as they may not fully understand what they are doing when they are having sex, or what can become of it. Also, if they do become pregnant, they will need a lot of support if the pregnancy goes to term and they have children.

If you mean can they produce normal offspring, the answer is a big MAYBE. It would depend on the dominant gene.
