The Rock (real name is Dwayne Johnson) decided to pursue another career in acting. With the success of the "Scorpion King" and "The Rundown" (both of which were produced by WWE, ironically), the "people's champ" felt like he accomplished everything on what he had to do in the WWE (winning titles, being a main eventer, making a legacy in the business) and decided in good terms with Vince that he should make a career in acting and so far, he hasn't disappoint. His filming schedule (currently making a cameo on Comedy Central's Reno 911!, "The Game Plan" and "Spy Hunter") makes it hard for him to return to the WWE and with a kid to support, it's make it even harder for him to return full time, even if he wanted to. The good news is that Vince left the door open for the Rock to come back to the WWE for a night or two (kinda like what Austin is doing now) and the Rock has recently announce that he might make an appearance in the near future. However, his accident on the set of his new movie might change his plans.
The Rock is listed as a RAW superstar on WWE.com and has a new movie coming soon called "Gridiron Gang".

Shortly after Wrestlemania XX, he left to do a movie. while doing this, neither The Rock nor WWE realized his Wrestling contract expired. Both sides, I believe, are having difficulties coming to terms for a new contract. I also think that to this day, they are still working on it 'cause The Rock REALLY wants to lay the Smackdown again on the jabronis of RAW & SD, but I personally would like to see him on ECW!!!

He has been out for a while now. He is in Hollywood making a living w/ movies. He might come back, but I'm not sure. I am a huge WWE fan. So, if you have any other questions about WWE, I can probably answer them. But yeah, he has been gone for, uh, about a year or more now.

The rock has moved on to bigger and better things. He's now a full movie actor as oppose to acting in the WWE.
