Coming from someone who has both a puppy and a rabbit, I say go with the puppy. They have much more of a personality and can interact with you, while I actually feel sorry for my rabbit because I've had it for 11 years now and it just sits in its cage all day.

A puppy is an animal that needs a lot, I mean A LOT of attention! They also cost a lot more in the long run. You have to get their shots and that can cost a few hundred dollars in the first few months. They need a crate, a leash, collar, toys, bowls, a lot of food, you have to give them lots of baths, brush them, get flea and tick medication, brush their teeth (they don't like that so watch your hands!) I could just keep going! They do have added benefits, like you can play with them and they will greet you and give you lots of love and licks! They also poop on the floor when you are gone, chew up the garbage and your new shoes while they are young. Training classes are expensive and a must or you will have a dog that jumps on people, runs away every time you open the door...again, I could just keep going.
A rabbit, while not as personable...they don't require as much care or attention. I think they can make wonderful first pets and they do show attention. Plus, they are very cute and you can hold them and show them off. You should have the rabbit declawed and fixed...meaning their claws are removed and they can not make babies...you will be much better off. They do poop a lot, but they are pellets and can be vacuumed up really easy. A dog's poop is stinky and harder to clean.
I hope you find the right animal for you and your family! Good luck!

Puppies and rabbits require very different care. I have heard both can make loving and personable pets. Check out books on the care of each pet. It may be hard to find a good book on rabbits as pets. Most just cover rabbits for fur show or meat. Try to get a copy of "The House Rabbit Handbook", or google the House Rabbit Society. Finding a book about dogs shouldn't be as hard. Looking at the care requirements and hearing stories from those who own rabbits or dogs should make the decision clearer.

You should research these animals very well first.
Puppies need ALOT of attention and it's can be a 10-15 year commitment. Do you really want to be walking a dog every day for the next 10 yrs?
Rabbits don't need as much care, but they do need attention & occasionally let out of their cage to exercise. Do you mind scrubbing out a rabbit hutch? Does rabbit fur make you sneeze? Will your mother trim the rabbits nails regularly so you don't get scratched up when you pick him up?

I have a rabbit and her name is Daisy. Rabbits are the most loving pets you will ever have!! They act just like a cat or a dog. They can be litter trained (which is very easy) you can take them outside on a leash/harness, they play, you can teach them tricks, they are VERY smart!! They are so loving and caring, and they aren't any more work than a dog. They recognize their owners and LOVE to spend time with them. If you do get a rabbit make sure you handle it when it's small so it will grow up to like to be handled! So i would get a rabbit if I were you... They like up to 12 years or even more! So i hope this helped in your choice!
oh and happy birthday!

if you have alot of time and patience to deal with a puppy, go for it. housebreaking/training a dog isn't easy. having a dog around is like having a toddler in the house, you have to puppy-proof the house (keeping human food out of its reach, keeping dangerous plants/chemicals away from it), and they need ALOT more attention than rabbits do. at least a rabbit can be caged, much easier to pick up after, and is less high maintainence. dogs are very high maintainence!

If you handle the rabbit enough and the right way then it's a great pet. But dogs are easier to get along with. My rabbit was the best pet i ever had, but then i've had some pretty bad rabbits also.

All depends on how serious you are and how much time you want to devote to the care of the pet you choose.
A rabbit is a nice pet to have. Yu can spend time training it much like you can a cat or a dog. But you can also keep it in a pen for most of the time.
A puppy takes time and patience. Especially a MinPin. I have had 2 of them. They are nice inside dogs. But they are hyper and like to run, jump and play. They need lots of attention and patience.
Whichever you decide on, make sure you are truly commited to taking the time to care for it.

it doesn't matter how cute an animal is it matters how human friendly it is and how much you can take care of it. If you get a bunny then you have to clean poop out of its cage like every day and if you get a puppy you have to walk it every day. If you get a bunny you have to buy a specific type of food. If you buy a dog you have to play with it every day. If you get a bunny you have an indoor pet and if you have a dog you play with it in a fenced area. I think ferrets are better they are fun and all you have to do daily is feed it and scoop the poop. Its your pick whatever sounds good to you.

Get a puppy! My sister just bought a rabbit, and at first it was nice, but now it reached sexual maturity and scratches you when you hold it and humps Everything!!! You can train a dog better then a rabbit. Hope this helps!
