It's hard to say since all the hotels start to look the same on the inside. Well, except for the Bellagio. but I would go with MGM.

I have stayed at both hotels and I choose the Monte Carlo when I want a lower priced room. The MGM rooms have been upgraded recently and you can probably get a larger one than Monte Carlo as standard. The MGM has more amentities in it, including a stadeum for fights and the night club Studio 54, if you need that in your hotel.

They're both good hotels. I've stayed in both on business trips. I personally like the MGM better, but the Monte Carlo is often less expensive, and still very nice.

MGM is a much better hotel, they're both owned by the same company but MGM has better restaurants and all their rooms have been recently remodeled. Also if you got enough money they have some of the best High Roller accomodations in town.

Here's some stats on MGM:
Four 30-story towers soaring 280 feet with 5,034 guest rooms, including 751 suites and SKYLOFTS at MGM Grand: 51 two-story Lofts located on top two floors (if you stay here at the SKYLOFTS they'll provide all transportation in your own private Maybach)
and also 29 private villas located inside The Mansion at MGM Grand, named “Best of the Best” Hotel in the 2004 Robb Report’s Luxury Issue. And opening in May The Signature at MGM Grand: 576-suite hotel, with three distinct towers.
It also has 18 different restaurants plus 6 fast food outlest in its food court.

Now lets look at Monte Carlo:
Has about 1100 rooms that havent been remodeled since they opened and as far as food it has 6 restaurants plus a food court.

Personaly I would stay at Wynn or Bellagio.

If I had a choice, I'd choose the Monte Carlo. It's not so ridiculously huge, and much less expensive. I've also heard that it's fairly nice. But if by "better" you mean more upscale and with more services/restaurants/etc., then it would be the MGM.

Of these two, I would say the MGM. Just a personal preference.

i like the MGM best because it's close to more of the better known hotels and it's the beginning of the strip

Neither. I wasn't impressed with either of them. go the MGM to see a fight, but don't stay there.instead check out the Bellagio...a bit more expensive, but definitely worth it...but if you're a younger guy who wants to be around younger women then check out the palms.
good luck with all!
