Come up with a plan, shop carefully, and do all of the work yourself. It's just common sense.

Good luck with your project.

Go on line and look under lowes they have a program for doing that. So does Better Homes and Gardens. BHG.com. Start with a good plan and do a little at a time. Do it yourself. I know one little lady that bought two stepping stones a week all summer thats the way to do it. Make a big plan but do it in small steps.

Watch those landscaping shows on HGTV and you'll get some good ideas.
Also check at your public library where you can get books on plants and landscaping. A library card is free.
To get free plants, ask your friends, family and neighbors if they have any they don't want or ones that you can take cuttings from. Some plants will start roots if you snip off a stem and put it in water for a few weeks.
If you can't find free plants, buy the small ones at Wal-Mart. They will get big in a few years time.

A mess huh? Go out there, clean it all up yourself. Then till your ground with a hoe, add a few bags of steer manure, blended well with your soil and plant grass seed. If you have the room, make a small garden out of 4x4s, made to look more like a sand box, and plant seeds. Find out what sorta fruit or vegetables you can plant right now.

Pea gravel if you don't like mowing. Grass if you do.
