If the elders are the only ones that know the secret, where do the other people come from. I understand some may have been born to others in the village, but the village started with only a few people. William Hurt only had 2 daughters, the other characters only had one or 2 children, and those children didnt have their own children. Were those kids adopted or what? This has been bugging. I love that movie, but when I see it that question comes to mind.

There's quite a few "elders" in the movie, and their children, maybe some of the "elders" that weren't mentioned or didn't have as big of a part had older children, who then had children. Even the children know that their parents came there voluntarily and weren't born there, maybe some of the elders brought their family members (older) as well.

The village is made up of the "elders" (the group of adults that created the village) and their kids. They lived there for a long enough time that the original group of elders had their kids while they were living there. The original group that started the village knows the "secret," and the kids don't.

the only people that know the secret are the elders, actually i dont remember there being any other older people on the movie. they are all children of the elders, or mabye there were other elders that died? who knows, it is a great movie, i wonder if there will be a part 2? since it ended the way it did.

I always assumed that all of the adults were in on the whole secret. The reason the "elders" are in charge is, they started the group and Walker has all the money so he is basically their leader.

good question, i think that the elders are the founders, but the other adults are also in it... and i didnt like that movie! i got so frustrated at the end!

This same question has always been bugging me, because how could that many people keep a secret from each other. It's not possbile. I wish I could give you more help, but that's it.
