I think it's just like a woman with low self esteem, constant encouragement. It may take them a while to start to believe it, but sooner or later he will come to believe that YOU believe all the things you say... and that will help lead him to believe them himself.

Depends. Is there any underlining symptoms or conditions? Drugs? Alcohol? History? Family history? What you might be thinking of as very low self esteem may be clinical depression or a bipolar personality disorder. Stand back for a moment and observe his reactions to social settings and to you. Is he manic? You might want to consult a professional. Just b/c he is handsome doesn't mean everything is okay inside. Remember, Ted Bundy was a babe to many ... until he started clubbing people to death.

Hug him, hold his hand tightly when he feels down. Most importantly he needs your support. My boyfriend used to be the exact same way, now he is confident. his hands would sweat when he got nervous and he was really embarrased about it, i would always hold his hand no matter if it was sweaty or not, and i told him i loved his sweaty hands and he kissed me. You cant be overly complimentary, do it when he least expects it. that way he will know you are sincere in acknowldging his good qualities.

you can give him compliments and tell him all the things you like about him. But this may not work because in order for him to feel confident about himself he needs to change on the inside and that isnt always easy.
