He's a cartoon character! They are either brilliant or they lack big time in the grey matter dept. Spongebob is written as "naive" so that his character can be a part of all those wacky adventures he and his buddies have every single episode. Just about everyone has watched or has a favorite cartoon character. It doesn't matter that in the real world bunnies, cats, dogs, lions, gorillas, sea creatures, hyenas, mice, coyotes...etc. etc...(the list is long)...can't talk or do the silly things they do in cartoons, what matters is that it makes you laugh.
