First you need to educate yourself on all that's available that you would be interested in doing. There are more ways to earn online than there stars in the sky. Well, maybe not that many but it can be over whelming.
I started by signing up for all the newsletters, mini-courses and such that I could find. You will filter throught them till you find the ones that appeal to you.
Once you find something you are interested in, you have to make a decision that will call you to action. If you can't do this, and you only wish and talk about wanting, then you will never have what you want.
To answer where to start, I found this site that offers some great ideas, information, articles and ebooks on the subject. I got one and put some of the techniques in place and now I am seeing the results.
Bottom line, you have to make a decision to do something, then keep at it. Work it till you succeed and yes, you will succeed.

Yes there are legitimate on-line jobs.
People who think that all on-line jobs are scams have never spent the time to really look and check things out.
This is the key to finding something good for you.
I worked at home for 4 years selling used books through places like Amazon and Alibris. I made a good salary and it did not take a ton of my time.
There are companies who will hire you to take calls from home. I worked for one of these as well and it was a good job.
You may also choose to make products from home and create your own on-line shop.
Please don't think that all on-line jobs are scams... this just isn't true. A little research and some planning go a long way.

That's a tough one. I looked for over a year and failed to find any that didn't require me to pay a fee first, "host parties" or some scan like that. I checked into just about everything I could, too.
What I ended up doing was becoming an eBay seller and cleaning out every single closet in my house. I sold all my "junk", cleaned out my entire home, and made a bit of money for myself. But to do that you really need to be comfortable with using eBay and do your research first (example- read all the applicable 'help' topics that eBay offers).
Sorry to say that, after all my closets were cleaned out, I needed to look for a job outside the home.

I'm a stay-home-mom too, those online deals are not real, big scams. You could hook into the home-party business, sell candles, food, kitchen items, etc.....

Have you ever thought about being a medical transcriptioner or a proofreader for Court reporters? I know if you are a proofreader for Court reporters everything is done through e-mail.

No such thing. All of those online work at home schemes are actually scams. They do not work.
