the problem is that they don't understand me. they don't let me take my own decisions, from clothes to hairstyle to the nailpolish everything my mom decides that. common i am 21 now. i am not a kid. i feel like that i will never be independent and never be able to do anything of my own. what should i do? how i make my parents understand that plz let me live by my own rules now? i don't drink, i don't smoke, i have one boyfriend for last 7 years, i don't do anything which makes them feel shameful on me then why? why?

Sit them down and talk to them. Tell them exactly how you feel. Don't hide anything. Be sincere. Explain that you're not doing it to hurt them, but you just need to be on your own. They won't always be there, so you need to learn to live on your own. Then maybe they will realize that they are too controlling and need to let you go so that you can grow on your own. I don't mean age wise. Parents can sometimes be too protective and afraid to let go. Try it and see what happens.

If you continue to live at home, then that's probably why they feel they have the right to make all your decisions. If you're an only child, that too could be another factor.
You have only had one boyfriend since you were 14. THAT is not normal. If you are capable of supporting yourself, than that is what you must do. You need to learn how to make your own decisions. Because your parents will not always be available to give you help and advice. Your first decision is to tell them these things that you must do. But be very prepared for their reaction!

If you are 21, you need to find a job to support yourself, if you can't afford to live alone, then find a room-mate. You won't be independent as long as you are living with your parents. At some point you have to make your own decisions and stand up for yourself, i.e. with hairstyle and make-up. Your mother can't force you to do these things. They may be unhappy for a while but it sounds like you are a responsible person, they will get over it.

Because they are parents, its hard to understand them. I have the same problem with my parents but i dont mind them because i am a adult now. They are suppose to guide us not control us
