Do not wash them in soap of any kind. Soap will damage the natural lustre of the shell.
If they are indeed authentic tortoise shell bracelets or combs, they may be refinished by a jewelry maker or treated by high polishing. Heirloom quality tortoise shell jewelry should be worn often. Your natural oils from your skin will help retain the lustre. You may polish them with KUKUI nut oil or COCONUT oil. The inside of the bracelet does not need polishing. If the outside of the bracelet is damaged, this needs to be refinished by a jeweler. He may simply sand it down and then high polish it and finish it by using sealants.
