For those of you who quote the Bible to support your argument that it is a sin to be gay, what is your position on the verses in Leviticus that state: "You shall not approach a woman...while she is in her menstrual uncleanness", "You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard", "You shall not...tattoo any marks upon you", "you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed; nor wear a garment made of two different materials." What'r your views on the fact that Leviticus also forbids the eating of pigs and some forms of seafood. And the word "abomination" in Leviticus is translated from the Hebrew word "to'ebah", a religious term reserved for use against idolotry, refering to the temple prostitution that went on back then; some men had sex w/ each other as religious ritual, not as love--look it up. Also, what are your views on the fact that Jesus--the Son of God--never said anything about same gender relationships being evil. Not a single word.

Hi Julia--But there's nothing in the New Testament that says it's okay to approach a woman on her period, or about the beard, or tattoos, or seeds in the field. So, those should still hold-up, right? What's stated against homosexuality in the N.T. comes from Paul, *not* Jesus. Why is this never addressed. Or what about my point of the word "to'ebah" which has been translated to mean "abomination"--a moral sin, which is not correct? There's a whole historical context that is not being considered when people quote the Bible---not to mention the translation from Hebrew and Greek to English. There's also a whole historical context that's not being taken into consideration with the letters of Paul.

those who say that some verses are 'supplanted' should say what they REALLY mean which is;
"we pick and choose our prejudices from the bible"
after all- if you SAY you beleive in the ENTIRETY OF THE BIBLE then it means exactly that- you beleive it ALL.
EVERY WORD.
and they wonder why we dont love to hear the whole 'abomination' theory. sheesh!

The other Levitical teachings have been supplanted and superceded by new teachings in the New Testament.
But the prohibiton against homosexuality has not been superceded by anything in the New Testament.
On the contrary -- Levitical prohibitions against homosexuality are REAFFIRMED and BACKED UP by the New Testament.
That's the difference. But nice try anyway.

good question, the answer is in 1st corinthians chapter 9 where it says that homosexuals wont enter the kingdom of heaven. Also when the aposles were instructing the gentiles(non jews) what to do to be a follower of jesus they mentioned a few things, not eating blood, not worshiping idols, and not being involved with sexual immorality. So it seems to be a big thing that paul talks about as getting in the way with a relatioship with God. After all thats what its all about, being close to God and loving him.
I used to be gay no joke, i gave my heart to Jesus and asked him to take away the homosexuality and He did! im straight now! people can say whatever they want, that i wasnt gay to begin with, that im in denial, but i know and im a living example that Jesus can changed you and transform your life.
thats the joy of it, Jesus is all powerful and loves us and will do almost anything to help us :)
UPDATE***********
and im not hating people who are gay, on the contrary I love everyone. Jesus says love your neighbor as yourself, but i love you so much that i want to make sure you go to heaven.
of course one can twist that and say i love cant sin. But u can love your dog so much and have sexual relations with it, and its a SIN, it says it clean in the bible. We need to watch our love that it doenst lust.
and we dont know if Jesus mentioned it or not. Since Jesus is God and does not contridict Himself, if God says it is a sin in the old testiment, it is in the new testiment, im sure Jesus would have been against it. When Jesus speaks, its about eternal life, which is most important, giving up sins follows giving your heart to Jesus.
The gospels were written to share the Gospel of Christ, not to point and reaffirm every sin ever written.

Oh! Don't bother trying to change the minds of bigots and religious fanatics. They are blinded like those in a cult. I've tried to think about this institutionalize hatred to see why so many conform to it. But unfortunately, these types of people are like sheep willing to be told what to think and believe. Jesus tells us to love one another as we love ourselves. This is the Golden Rule. I would rather listen to Jesus. I would advise you to just forget about these sorry-*** bigots. God will deal with them later.

Thank You for placing some clarity on this issue. For those who quote the bible often bend it to thier advantage. When scripture is found that Jesus himself wrote stating that he can not love someone because they love another like themselves. That this type of love is a sin.....well that is the day I stop believing in Jesus. For no type of love can ever be a sin.

You are quoting old testament. Christians live by the rules of the New Testament. Try reading some of that instead.

No, you're quite right, that was left to St. Paul - who never met the Main Man.

This same question goes around and around. I've given URLs to these people in order to teach them that they are misinterpreting their bibles. They keep coming back with the same answers and, obviously, have not researched the website.

people who quote the bible to make their point need to understand that "god" or "jesus" never wrote the bible.. It was written by man and man makes mistakes... we also think differently so therefore we take things differently...
I don't believe in god or the bible.. to much trouble...but people who do need to learn how to mind their own business... and if they think being around gay people will make them gay.. well hanging out with us will make them gay just like hanging around a tall person will make you tall... ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!
Plus those who thing gay marriages should be banned ...well they haven't heard of SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!!!
