Because the laws on holding animals in cages to pump full of chemicals are a lot looser than the laws for doing this to humans.

Because the products HAVE to be tested on something before being given to humans. And since animals skin, respiratory system, and anatomy is closer to ours than plant's they are the "guinea pigs". If it wasn't tested on them then you could go to the store for soap and you might pick up something that literally burned your skin off, gave you cancer, or even killed you. Testing them on humans is bad because you can't just test things on people that might kill them. There are lawsuits and also people trying to get revenge. So you have to test them, and since plants don't react to most chemicals the way we do, animals are the subjects.

because despite what we'd like to think, humans are pretty close to animals, did you know that almost all drugs are tested on mice...and that is the first basis on wether to run human trails

So yeah, we're not that far removed for a pig or mouse or yep even a monkey just a "few" strands of DNA

I get paid by drug Co's to test drugs . Mostly 2nd human trails. Pays good . Trying it on mice first is good. I think those folks at Peta should let them test untested drugs on them if they have a problem with animal tests! It would only be fair!!
