How often is normal to have a period? 3-4 weeks?

I haven't had one in 5 weeks. I haven't charted them in over a year and forget what normal is.

Does the cycle begin with the blood flow? So the first day of the period would be day 1?

Five weeks is still within the normal range. (It could be up to 6 weeks) However, there are several reasons that may be preventing your period from coming. First, is it possible that you're pregnant? Second, if you were/are under stress, it could prevent you from having a period.

Every 28 days is the average cycle. Some people go more or less frequently. For a long time, I started on the 10th of every month. Some people have one every 3 weeks, or every 5 weeks. Some are irregular and will have one on the 10th of this month and the 1st of next month, or the 20th of next month. Every one's cycles are different. As far as when does it begin. It begins with ovulation, the release of the egg from the ovary; some have cramping with this even, then about two weeks later, when the egg is not fertilized, the lining of the uterus is shed to release the unfertilized egg. Then about two weeks later, the cycle begins with ovulation. Just as a little interesting tid bit, you are born with every egg you will ever have. You don't grow new ones each month. ;) Cheers...

well a normal cycle is 28 days. This can very per girl. So if you havent had a period in 5 weeks and you have been having unproteced sex.....now is probably a good time to buy a test.

Usually 3-4 weeks.For about a year before I went on the pill I got them every 3 months. Now that I am on the pill they are regular.
