Some examples would be Grandpa dies before the Wilson's join the family and Grandma dies before Ma provides food to the Hooverville children." I don't see how Ma providing food to the Hooverville children would be expanding the family...that's why I used the word flourish. I would just cut that whole word and example out and find a better point.
