My company is developing a brand new community, mixed-use development is all the buzz. That's where some residential might be above some retail/office like in downtowns, but all shiney and new. Theoretically, you can walk or short drive to many things like shopping, medical, work, school, etc.

If you would live in such a place, tell me about yourself - are you single, married, with kids; blue collar, professional, student, retired; low, moderate or high income, etc.

We have several of these in the Bay Area. They range from very small, moderate prices to high end. I'm married and trying to start a family, so this would not appeal to me. However, if I were single, I would be very interested in the high end type. The one around here has apartments for rent and condos for sale. The shopping center has mostly high end shops (Tommy Bahama, Furla, Diesel, etc.), restaurants, bars, a hotel, and a movie theater. I would expect this type of community to appeal to single, professionals with fairly high income.

I would...there is a place like that near where I live now. It's called New Town in Williamsburg. I'm married and my husband has three kids from a previous marriage that visit in the summer. He and I plan to have a baby in the next few years. We have a high income, I suppose. He's a supervisor for KBR in Iraq and I'm a massage therapist. The reason we didn't buy in New Town was due to the extremely high price of the townhomes there!

So you are talking about having an entire economy in a neighborhood. Sounds nice but you will have to import your low income people like shop owners and workers. The office people would live in the neighborhood, or at least the managers. What kind of businesses would they run? I'm guessing just another paper pushing place. The movie rental place manager and grocery store manager would have to commute or live in the slum part of the neighborhood.

Being a $50,000 a year postal employee, B.S. degree in Business Administration, white male, divorced with child, I don't see myself living in that kind of place.

I sell systems to proprties like this all day. phone, internet and video on demand. mainly hotel/condo units but we have been getting into the appartment and convention center market. i love the buildings except the condos usually start around 400,000 to 5 million i am currently trying to work with kb urban they are developing the urban condo buildings.

I would love a place like this except, I work thru the internet and thru the phone. so for the same price i can hook up to a fiber line and live up in the mountains of north georgia and have 3 acers of land.
I am getting married in three years.
I am a professional sales rep.
moderate to high income depends on the years
I like these properties becuse o there convinence exsample the rosewood mansion on peachtree in atlanta that is being built i am trying talk with there IT director. The real demand for properties like this are urban areas with high realiestate value. becuse the cost of the condo units are affordable compared to the cost of living in a good suburb close to the metropolitan area. Also a big use is for corparte condos. my company owns one in calgary alberta i staied there nce it is like a hotel but great for setting clients up for the night

I love the idea of having shopping, work and entertainment with-in walking distance and in a safe community. But I would hate not having my own yard.

I have 2 kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats and 1 husband. I think we would go nuts without our yard.

I would be interested.

I am a gay professional, no kids.
Moderate income

Most likely this community will cater to empty nesters, singles without kids and professionals.
