Boy what a blow it would be to me if I found out I was the nice house and not the mansion! He would end up with a shabby apartment in my book.
I do think you handled the situation as best you could. He must have still harbored some feelings for you and just wanted to see if there was ANY possible way it could work before he settled for second best. Hence his analogy.

It doesnt matter. You've both made your choices, and married.
Read whatever you wish into his words. Could be a feather in your cap that he thinks of you as a mansion. Personally I'd prefer a nice HOME.
At any rate, pretty obvious he never got over you. But then again, he didnt really pursue you either. Relish your life and husband.
Leave your x in the past where he belongs.

Does his wife know he said those things- because she should. That's no way to start a marriage. He should realize that you've moved on and that if this other girl is only a nice house, maybe he should wait for a new mansion to come on the market.

I think the question should be: Why the heck did I go with my ex to pick out a ring for his fiance? Hello?? How does your husband feel about helping your ex pick out a ring. Oh wait, he probably didn't know. Well sucks to be you!! You have already cheated in your heart with the ex. Grow up and move on!!

I think that the theory is really sad on so many levels. His wife may think that she has the mansion but he just has the house. I also feel for the child involved. His attitude towards his wife is unfair.

I think that he looks at women as objects for him to own. If he thinks that you are the mansion and she is the house, then they will soon have problems. I think that you made the right decision to break it off with him, and try not to get yourself into anymore uncomfortable situations... Remember, never settle for anything less than you deserve.

yea, great way to compare her to you. what a douche bag.
why are you hanging out with the ex anyway?? your marriage must be wonderful..
***EDIT***
Looking at a few of your other questions I found this about you and your husband ' I have been with him since we are 15 and 16 we are now 30 and 32 '
So you are talking about an ex from 15+ years ago?? Or did you have an affair??

i think its a guy talking and i wouldn't think too much about it. i'm sure he doesn't tell her she's something he's settling for, i'm sure he tells her she's the best thing that ever happened to him and he's never felt like that with anyone else, blah blah blah blah blah. you get the picture. i can't imagine any woman marrying him and having his kid if he's telling her she's a nice house he's settling for, which means he's bs'n one of you. more than likely it was a simple power play to see if he could still get in the sack with the one that got away and beyond that had no real meaning.

I don't know why anyone would settle for something less than what they want. It is my experience that for some people the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence until they climb over it. Then they find another fence to climb.
