Well, it seems to be "ok" according tothe poor.

It seems to be "ok" according to gov't. They steal us blind and confiscate everything we own when they arrest us and redistribute wealth to rich and poor alike, and do it every day.

Because there is a large group of people who condones inappropriate activities, does that make it "ok?"

Are you simply asking for an opinion, like so many people trying to chat with Questions & Answers? Or are you really searching for the truth?

I'm assuming you are at least a little familiar with the law against robbery, for which you could go to jail, so your question doesn't state exactly what it is you are asking. Sure the gov't has a double standard, but they aren't our moral standard and this shouldn't confuse you.

And surely you are familiar with the Supreme Law? We are commanded by God: "THOU SHALT NOT STEAL." This is not a "recomendation, or something we can rightly "discuss" in an effort to change. This is simply the only way life works for the best of all, has stood the test of time for millennia, and it doesn't matter who the beneficiary of the stealing is. There really isn't another way to interpret it

It's not OK to STEAL from the rich and give to the poor, but the rich should willingly give everything to the poor. If you want to get into a tax argument, consider this: the rich pay allot more for the exact same services that the government offers. Just because the rich pay more dose not mean that they get anything more from the government. The tax situation is not the same as in the day of robin hood. Back then the taxes were without representation.

When I was twenty I probably would have said Yes, but I'm not a kid anymore. And now I'd have to say No.

Stealing is wrong.

I'm not talking about the legal sense - though we all know where the law stands... Everyone who reads this page (except the pathological amongst us LOL) knows this in their heart of hearts...

For those of you who doubt this, reverse the situation ? Is it still so good ? No. That is how I judge this kind of question. Sure, many rich people should do more for the world around them... but some really do a lot (The Gates Foundation gave something like $5 billion to third world health issues last year) And do all poor people do all they can for their fellow man ? No. They, like the rich, are people - and as prone to the faults of man as the greatness.

Work towards a fairer and more equitable society with whatever skills and talents you have. But stealing ?

My two year old knows better...

SO TOTALLY NOT!

First stealing is definitely immoral.

Second, no matter how much money you give to the poor, they will soon become poor again, reason being that they are poor because they don't know how to nandle money. You must first teach the poor how to handle and create money and value, and then they will be able to maintain it. If you don't know how to handle and maintain something you will not be able to keep it.

The rich are what drive our economies. But if you do take from the rich, it will not matter to them, for those who are truly wealthy are not wealthy because of how much money they have, but because of the knowledge of wealth creation that they have. So take from those who have true wealth, and they will always gain their riches again; give to the poor, and without proper training, they will always return to their poverty again.

Last, it is like the old proverb says, "Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach him to fish, and he will eat everyday."

Most of the rich give so much to charity anyways. Why STEAL from them? How about teaching people instead of just giving them stuff.

Well, it certainly seems OK in all the Robin Hood tales, but does the end justify the means? Once you start down THAT slippery slope, perdition isn't far away.
I mean, I'm (relatively) poor, so would it be OK for me to steal from, say, big corporations or the government?
By the way, feel free to disagree - but if you do, would you mind posting your net worth and address so that those poorer than you can drop by and rip you off?

NO! The ends don't justify the means and stealing is wrong no matter what context it's put in.

It's wrong for the rich to withhold from the needy but it's wrong to steal from them. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Stealing is never ok no matter how you sugar coat it.

What if you were considered rich by others standards - would it be ok for them to steal from you?

if you work for irs it sure is legal, that should count on some behaviors. On other conditions, or even countries, stealing is not necesarily accountable or wrong, it can be ok to steal to give to others if the burglar or thief does pays taxes and respond to liasons, according to law.

It is dangerous to ask this question in this manner. What if I were to phrase it this way...

"Is it OK to take from someone who has worked hard, made sacrifices and risks, and had brilliant ideas to earn their wealth, and give it to someone who did not work as hard, did not make good decisions, and did not make those sacrifices to become wealthy?"

I would say No. It's not right. It is still theft.

No, but the rich should be more like Warren Buffet and be more philanthropic!

This better for the economy, and people will leave their other billions alone!
