We can get upset about immigration and make an issue out of it .
and the war and flag burning but why not this?

I think its time for a march!!! Maybe even a day off for everyone, so we can show our solidarity as the workforce!

Wow, a lot of you people don't have a grasp of the reality a lot of people in this country have to deal with.

Since the cost of living has increased in the last 9 years the minimum wage should also increase. If the cost of living goes up so should the minimum wage.

I agree...it's pitiful that the minimum wage is so low. And I think it's disrespectful to the American people. And don't listen to Cali Beach Babe...she's a spoiled brat who's mommy and daddy does everything for her!

Are you sure you want to ask this? I'm pretty sure the government monitors this thing. Anyway, look at the structure of an arch. If the keystone is removed the whole thing collapses. Look at the machine...If a gear moves COUNTER to the motion of the other gears, the machine will malfunction, but more often than not, the falty gear is removed. The other gears move smoothly only if the gears around them are moving in the same direction. And sadly the "gears" are only concerned with moving in the path of least resistance, not how it works. Sorry, I ramble alot...oh and to be clear, minimum wage is for entry-level, unskilled labor. Work hard or learn a skill.

How about trying to improve yourself and getting promoted and getting a job that pays more? I know a lot of companies like Marriott that pay more and when you stay long enough you move up the ladder. Now I probably p..... off some people.

I am sorry I am not solidare with people who just assume they have the right to more money.
Plus if companies have to pay more some companies cannot afford it like smaller companies. They will not be able to hire as many people and give them a job or worse yet they will have to close if min wage gets increased as they are feeling hte hurt of gas prices as well.

No matter how flat the pancake two sides to each...

You can argue that the minimum wage is irrelevant in many areas because the starting wages are actually higher. In the area where I live, starting wages for most entry level jobs, such as a McDonald's employee is between $6 and $7. The companies know that they cannot hire anyone to work for $5.15.

Well Superdare--you have the Republican majority to thank for this---the Democrats have been preaching this one for several years now and it is consistantly blocked by the majority--they feel that it would "weigh too heavily on small business owners""---And your last statement about your march thing goes to the heart of another part of this---the people holding the line against raising the minimun know that the people making minimun CAN'T TAKE DAYS OFF FROM WORK TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT---and they rely on the fact that these people for the most part are disfranchised and powerless TO do anything about it until voting time---then is when they show up to tell you how it's all going to change just as soon as you get them back in that office

If you have been making minimum wage for 9 years, you really need to upgrade your skills and get a better job.

Wages should be a function of the marketplace and your value to an employer.

If a higher minimum wage is good , why nor set it at $515.00 per hour?

Who cares about the fed minimum wage, doesn't your state have a minimum wage? Our states minimum wage is higher then the federals.
And do you not notice the pattern anyway wages go up and the price of everything goes up? Alls it does is lowers the value of the dollar.

If minimum wage goes up, eventually all other prices will too. So if they could keep the cost of living down as well and raise peoples pay we'd be in good shape. Companies aren't going to cut into their profit to pay more, they will just raise their prices for the goods they offer.

So, you want to raise the minimum wage? Watch the inflationary effect that will have on all prices. Also, watch unemployment go up as employers will just not create new jobs, growth stalls and the whole economy goes in the toilet.

you realize that minimum wage is laughable and a farce right?

if you raise miminum wage, then the price of everything else goes up

so now you are making 8$ an hour instead of six? so what the price of a loaf of bread just went up 50 cents, do you have any more buying power?

the question lacks even a rudimentary understanding of economics

try again my socialist friend

or maybe you could get a SKILL, you know figure out how to do something useful instead of mopping floors?

It isn't just about minimum wage. People like myself that have a good paying job and own a home are also struggling. Just wait until you have to pay taxes. Gas will be the least of your worries, but I do agree we have a serious problem.
