I am wondering if they take a large cut of your pay or not, since they never disclose that information.

If you're referring to staffing agencies, that include temp agencies, they don't take any money out of your pay. They pay charge a small percentage when they send the bill to their clients (people that hire you for a set period of time) and then they make the real money when a client hires you as a full time worker permanently.

My father runs a staffing firm - usually between 27 to 35% of what they charge the company you are working for.

Priest walking along a cliff, sees a little boy crying. "What's wrong, little boy?" he asks.
"My Mummy fell over the cliff" cries the boy, "and then my daddy fell over too trying to save her, and now they're both dead at the bottom of the cliff".

"Oh dear" says the priest, lifting his cassock, "today isn't your lucky day, is it?"
