When you hear someone sing, they can be in tune, on time and have all the "right" mechanics of a song down. On the other hand, a person might actually butcher the song, give it the feeling they have and express something really other than music by doing so. Which is more important, the emotional content of the words of a song and "feeling it" or getting it "right on pitch and time"? A few details as to why please.

I actually feel that it is a little of each. As you pointed out, technique is great, but if there is no feeling or no passion behind it, it shows. If someone has great passion but they lack technique it does no good either.

If a person with passion works on and masters technique imagine how powerful that could be! Same with a person with perfect technique--if they could tap into the passion it would be a beautiful thing.

I don't care how passionate you are, if you stink and are off pitch, I won't listen--or want to listen if my ears risk injury. If you sound wonderful but are made of stone, I will lose interest.

I think there has to be a happy medium somewhere.

If I have to choose the lesser of "2 evils," I'd have to choose technique--I'd rather listen to someone on pitch. It would be absolute torture to me to be locked in a room with only William Hung or Connie Chung to listen to. (They get A's for effort...but I won't listen to 'em.)

It really matters what you are doing.... Like , if you are in a contest you need feeling and you need to sing it well. Emotion is music . Without emotion there is nothing, but no one wants to listen to trash with feeling. Therefore, both balance each other out.
