It's been 13 weeks since my baby was born and I'm starting to see my tummy go back to normal; does it normally take this long?

I've had three c-sections. It will take longer to return to it's pre-pregnant state simply because you shouldn't do the same exercises that a vaginal birth mom can. It depends on how much weight you've gained too, and if you breastfeed or not, as breastfeeding releases hormones that make the uterus contract and shrink back down.

If you are really concerned about this I suggest you ask your doctor if they have recommendations of exercises you can do to specifically help your tummy area. Usually you will have some reading material that addresses this from your discharge teaching packet.

Try to be patient. You're body has taken 9 months to produce the beautiful baby you now hold in your arms. It isn't really surprising that it takes time to return to it's former state. Eat healthfully, get some exercise and rest when you are able, and enjoy your new family.

Good luck.

It's different for everyone, I had a c-section with my first baby, and I was back in my prepregnancy jeans when my baby was a little less than 4 months old (I would have worn them sooner but the pressure my pants put on my scar hurt so I chose to wear things that were baggy). I would say by the 5th or 6th month I looked like I hadn't even had a baby (my "baby" is now 5 1/2 yrs old) I still have a slight line where they cut me open but I can wear a bikini and no one sees it. The funny thing was I had a vaginal birth with my second child, and it took my tummy longer to recover (and look normal) from that than it did with a c-section (I think that had more to do with it being my second child and I think I gained a few more pounds... like 5 maybe, more than it had to do with the method in which I gave birth) the short version of my answer is, it's going to be different with everyone, some people bounce back immediately and some never bounce back. (my mom still is trying to get rid of her pregnancy fat from her last pregnancy, and my little brother is 15 now!!!) I don't think it matters whether you had a c-section or delivered vaginally the fact is the muscles in your stomach were stretched out, after you get over the pain of the c-section there should be nothing holding you back from doing excersizes to help the process along. By they way just 6 months AFTER I had my c-section with my first child I actually went DOWN a size from what I had been before my child was born (and after my 2nd child it took me 9 months to get back down to that same size). The one thing you DO have to remember is that having a c-section WILL slow you down initially in getting back into your routine, it will make an excersize routine almost impossible until you're fully healed, but there is NO reason why in the end (and not much MORE time) you should have the same results as someone who had a vaginal birth (or even someone who has never had kids). Good luck, believe me my 2nd one is only a year old, so it has only been in the past couple of months I finally dropped off those last few pounds, I know how frustrating it is to remember how you looked before the baby and hate yourself for not being there NOW, but remember your body just went through a 9 month ordeal, you produced another human being out of your body, and now your body needs time to recover and get back to the way it was, don't be too hard on yourself, set realistic goals and you'll reach them!!

I will take about a year for your body to get back to pre-baby shape and size. Think about this, it takes 9 months for your body to produce a baby. What would make you think that it will get better in less time than that? I'm not being ugly with that question, that is how it was brought to my attention and I didn't think about it until that time frame was up. Now, don't get me wrong, I did pay attention for the year, I just didn't freak out about it and I let my body do what it was going to do. Expect more time if you are breastfeeding. Just to let you know!

Yes, with a c-section, the area has been "traumatized" by the staples and whatnot, so your body is concentrating on healing, not shrinking. Give yourself time to get back into pre-baby shape. Healthy eating and cardio exercise should do the trick! Congrats on the little one!

I had 2 c sections and my baby is 4 month old now. Breastfeeding can help loose all the weight if you do it full time and eat well and exercise. I am already in my original size.Good luck

Good luck. I guess diet and excersize helps a good bit. Mine almost went back to what it was before. I had my c-section 9 years ago. Your scar will always be there, but it will become very unnoticeable after time.

yes. I am and was quite skinny when my daughter was born. All I could notice was this little pouch where my incision was but it took almost 2 months to fully disappear. Everyone is different so give your body time and realize the miracle that it just performed for you

I had my son 5 years ago by c-section, my stomach went down, but I have a "pouch" that I am trying to get rid of and it is hard. My stomach is flat, but I have this "pouch". A friend of mine had all 3 of her girls by c-section and in order to get rid of her "pouch" she went and had a tummy-tuck.

Good Luck!
