Depends on your DVR.
The "easiest" way is to buy a DVD Recorder and hook it up to the s-video out on the DVR. This is what a friend of mine does with is satellite DVR.
If you have TiVo DVR, you can use TiVo To Go.

If you have a Motorola DVR (Comcast or other), here is is a Motorola FAQ on how to transfer digital recordings from the DVR to a PC using firewire:

Yes, if you have a stand alone DVD recorder or a PC.
I have a TIVO and two DVD recorders. I connected one DVD recorder to the TIVO and can record directly to a DVD with almost no picture or sound loss. You have to record the shows in real time (I usually record them as I watch them the first time) but there are also other advantages to doing this. If the DVD recorder can record on a DVD RAM then you can edit out the commercials. Most PC programs don't allow this. You can edit from the end or beginning of a show but not the middle.
Some newer DVRs have the ability to tranfer files to a computer using a USB connection. But you still might not be able to edit out the commercials if you like doing that kind of thing. Add to that, video files tend to use a lot of memory which can slow your computer down once you have a few hours worth of programs.
With my second DVD recorder, I record the programs again without the commercials from the first DVD recorder and I got to say---it's much more enjoyable not having to watch or fast forward through commercials. Again, there is little picture or sound loss with the digital format.
Hope this helps!!!

The best way is to get a DVD recorder and connect it to a video output of the DVR. I have recorded many shows this way. Start watching the show from the DVR then press "record" on the DVD recorder.

Yes, there are programs that will rip the shows off of the dvr's hard drive. You'd need to remove the hard drive from the dvr and install it into a cpmuter, then run the software. The software needed depedns on the type of dvr. For example, there is a program called "dishrip" which rips shows off of dish network dvr's.

Sure.
Connect the output of the DVR to the input of either a DVD Recorder or a VCR.
Hit play on the DVR, then hit record on the DVDR/VCR.

Depending on the model of DVR, you can use a program called DVarchive. Many people I know are currently using DVarchive with their ReplayTV units.

Have u tried turning the burner to 'On'..or plugged in all the cords? Ya i understand u have probably already tried that. How lengthy have u had the burner...it would want to have only quit operating altogether..u would favor to get a clean one. or verify the drivers to work out in the experience that they are registering the dvdpersistent...now and again it would not sign up that thepersistent is there. i wish that helped....
