What are the hardships people had? What kind of difficulties were there for people, businesses, etc.? I want to find out the dirt behind the Erie Canal and what the textbooks and books don't tell us. Where can I go?

Try these websites:

eriecanal.org
canals.org

Do a Google search with "Erie Canal" as your subject. I had a lot of hits. If you live in a state where the canal is located, you may be able to contact a museum or the State Library there. There may be diaries or articles by local newspaper writers about the canal.

You can also write to the webmasters of these websites and ask your questions. They may be able to lead you in the right direction.
