Considering that love is by the highest definition between two people to mean having a higher concern for the other individual without regards to your own benefit or loss, does love mean something on these lines to you? Or, is love more of a reciprocal balance of give and take? Is love the wrong word to associate with what love means to you?

Love is what you make of it. The definition you've given about having a higher concern for another without regards to oneself, to me that is love. Actually there's more to it than that, but then again not everything can be expressed verbally now can it?

There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me and that is the word LOVE itself holds the answer.......

(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.
