yes it is safe - remember the feet to foot position and ensure that the baby is on its back. In addition, if your really young baby is sleeping in a crib - 1/2 months old - it might be worth swaddling them. young babies like to be swaddled (apparently), as this reminds them of being cacooned in the womb. My little boy was swaddled for the first couple of months of his life in his crib, and then in his crib until he was 6 months old, and he is fine - positively blooming.

Definately safe for them to sleep in a crib.
I had my son in a bassinet those first few weeks. But, I was hovering over him like you wouldn't beleive. I never slept because ever time he made a noise I was peeking in that bassinet and just waiting for him to need me, lol@me.
Eventually, my husband talked me into putting him in his crib. And, he slept through the night the first night in the crib! Ah! I was keeping him awake and disturbing his sleep. Thankfully, my husband saw this and I listened to him...otherwise I may have created some bad sleeping habits for my son.
Who now at nearly 4 months loves his crib. He loves stretching out and moving around to find the most comfy spot. :))
BTW, if not in his crib when he's sleepy he will cry for his crib.

It's not really safe just yet, that is why you need a bassinet for the first 1-2 months, then you can safely put them in the crib as long as they don't sleep on their stomachs with anything near them.
