All star voting by the fans is STUPID. Fans do not know how good players are from other towns. Joe Mauer is the best catcher in baseball right now, and may not get in because he is a Minnesota Twin. Ok, my question is...do you think having the fans vote for the all star game is correct, or should it be done by the players and media - people who are in the know?

Yeah, look at pudge, he's sucked ever since he got off the juice. Joe Mauer WILL be in the all star game, Varitek will probably start, but dont worry, Joe Mauer will be the starting catcher in the AL for probably the next 9-10 years after this.

I think Mauer definitely deserves to be the starter in the all-star game. The best average in the game right now. And for a Catcher, that's a lot. To answer your question, I think the fans vote should be counted in someone, but only as a fraction. Like maybe (at the most) 50% fans, 25%players, 25% media. A lot of fans that vote are just casual observers and really don't know what's going on. They just vote for the names they know.

I think the fans should get to vote, but I don't think they should have such an input as the starters. It's pretty much going to be Yankees and Red Sox vs the NL. None of the White Sox players are going to earn a spot, though some of them are deserving more than those other guys. Not just the White Sox, though. Other teams, too. Personally, I think Joe Mauer should have a starting spot, even though I'm not a Twins fan. Eventually, though, he'll start a game before his career is over.

mauer should start. fans vote on the past performances or for their team players! most fans have no clue who has the best year going. mauer is hitting 377!

I guarantee you he will make the AL roster- nobody leads the league in batting and doesnt get a mention...I think you'll see both him and Pirates infielder Freddy Sanchez get spots on the team voted in by the managers
