Depends if you have a zipped cover on it or not. I know dust mites all over the palce without it. Depends on the manufacture too. Look on your tag.

With normal use and care, the lifetime of feather pillows is 5-10 years, and polyester is 6 months to 2 years.

keep it as long as you want. I have mine from last 6 months. But dont forget to wash the pillow Sheet atleast twice per month!

Do change it when the cotton inside the pillow starts to settle in corners and the colour of pillow changes.

i read somewhere that after 2 years there's more dead skin cells and dust/bed mites in there than the original fluff...pretty gross!!

i change mine about once a year. i also use a cover over the pillow and then the pillowcase. this helps keep it fresh and newer longer. plus when guests stay over or whatever, i feel better using it afterwards.

I'm not sure how long you SHOULD keep it, but my fiance has had his since he was 2. It's been through 2 fires, that he's rescued it from & it's barely a pillow anymore. It's now in a waterproof spacebag in the closet, as he wouldn't let me throw it away!!

If it's synthetic.

And you squeeze it and it feels lumpy, or you fluff it and it is lumpy all over no matter how much you try to plump it smoothly.

It's old and you should toss it.

If it's feather.

The pillow is 2 times smaller than the fluff it had when you bought it, or the feather quills feel like sand inside. And it won't stay fluffed.

Straight to the Garbage!

Buy a washable pillow. That solves the problem. Stay away from feathers. They can really set off your allergies.

It depends on the quality of the pillow.
