you would need to use partition magic as trying to do it yourself with a third party software you would end up deleting everything you on your Hard drive and loose all your data.
or another suggestion would be buy a external USB hard drive and keep all your music and othe personal stuff on it.
This was you would increase your storage space and won't need to partition your exisiting drive and risk loosing your data.

Partition magic is definitely a good choice, pretty simple to use, and with decent features - you can download it and get started immediately if you have the means to buy online.

Unless you have a space issue, you may not need to partition though. Not sure why it would be particularly desirable to do that? If you want to keep your operating system and associated files separate from your music files to speed up your computer, it may be worthwhile, but unless you have a slow machine is there any need?

Or just buy another hard drive, and pull all your music onto that.

why partition when you can just create a new folder, its like a mini partition and is seperate from all your other files
to create a new foder click on local disk (;c) and on the left you will see make new folder, click on this and a new folder will appear on your c drive, now just name it "my music files"for example
doing it this way also makes it easy to scan your music files
if you still want to partition ,if you only have one primary drive im afraid you will have to re-install windows xp,and while you are in set-up,you will get the option to partition your drives, but be careful as you have to read the instructions slowly,as one mistake can totally mess up your system
if you need any advice why not take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=313348,this gives you a printable version which you can have next to you when(or if)you decide to go ahead with partitioning
good luck

Partitiion magic is the way forward here however as other posters have mentioned, you could end up losing everything in the process so be careful! I'd recommend either backing up your music onto DVD's before running the partition magic program or even buying another hard drive to move te MP3's onto first before partitioning.

Either way, make sure you backup everything first!!!

if you are running out of space making a partition will not help. partition do not add space, they just break it in to smaller peices for organizational purposes. if you only have one hard drive, you will need special software in order to add a partition without reloading windows. In order to fully answer this question we would need to know if you are running out of disk space all together, or if u just need a way of separating your music from the rest of your computer

Please be careful if you try this you could easily loose everything on your hard drive. You can get a new 300GB hard drive for about 90 dollars and then you will not have to delete anything.

control panel\admin tools\Computer Management
there you can find a tab (storage) in that there is a child called as disk management , there you can create a new partaion ( if there is any free and unpartationed ) if not just free one drive there you place that
