No, the Soviet Union was an evil empire. They wanted global domination by enslaving people through Communism.

The United States, by contrast, spreads democracy and freedom. We have given the gift of democracy to Iraq and Afghanistan. They are both legitimate nations now that can participate fully in world affairs. They are free to support or oppose the United States, as they wish. These countries created their own constitutions, elected their own government, and can therefore do as they please.

Heck, we can't even get France to support us, and they are a Western nation. Why do people assume the U.S. is so all-powerful it can effortlessly strong arm certain nations to do our will?

More accurate is the way in which nations all over the globe take shameless advantage of the U.S., esentially blackmailing us to give them money and concessions for every little thing, even when it is in their own best interest. When foreign nations ask us for something, we try to be compassionate and generous. When the U.S. asks foreign nations for something, they say "Give us millions and millions of dollars and maybe we'll do it".

The U.S. has never aspired to be an empire. The closest we've ever come to that behavior was taking Hawaii, and that was a long, long time ago.

Yes, if you think that wanting to help is evil.

We shoot aid at people after disasters.

Invade helpless dictatorships who help their people by killing them.

America may be miguided in an understanding for other cultures, but most Americans mean no harm to anyone. We "interfere" in world matters because we want to help.

This is an after effect of the high we got after World War 2 when we were heros to the world. I can't say when we might get over it, but would the world actually be a better place if we did?

A lot of people say that we are in Iraq for the oil, but I don't think that there is enought oil in Iraq to pay the cost of the war. I think that we are in Iraq to have a political say in the region. Right or wrong, that is what the current administration in Washington wants. I disagree with the way the current American leadership(or lack thereof) conducts itself, but I do believe that the intent of most Americans is noble.

Americans don't want to rule the world, but we hope that the world will think like us(I know that that sounds as unrealistic as it is).

I'm sorry to say it, but all countries want expanded power. If they were given the opportunity to rule the world (along with others, perhaps), they wouldn't be very hesitant about it. That's largely because of this "superiority" belief that people inherently seem to have--that faith that what they do is better and more worthy than what anyone else does, that they can run things better than all others. It's rare to find an individual who doesn't want expanded power...and in honesty, such an individual would be the only I'd want to give such power to.

Maybe by ruling the world by proxy. Some people can;t understand that SOME PEOPLE DO NOT WANT DEMOCRACY!! They just don't. Other's would like it but not if it means getting bombed, losing your family, job, everything you own, etc....
The sad thing is, we are going after the countries that are absoultely NO threat to us (like Iraq) and ignoring countries that are a very real threat (North Korea). If North Korea had oil instead of Cabbage fields, you can bet we'd have invaded LONG ago.

Of course not. Why would we want to rule the world?

And why would you ask such a stupid question? Are you one of those people who don't understand the Iraq thing, and therefore figure that the US is evil?

Where are you from, by the way - and if it's not the US, then how many American dollars did your country recieve last year in foreign aid?

If you are from the US, then I would suggest you stick to your wrestling questions.

Well it would be nice if all countries would be free. It does kind of bother me when women have no rights and people live in poverty and and children die becuz they are not taken care of by their government. I'd like to believe that we could all live in peace but than I would like to beleive in Santa Claus too. So no I don't believe that the US is trying to rule the world. No one is that gullible.

No. Just because we are trying to keep ourselves safe doesn't make us evil. It makes us survivors.
