The same reason that people stay in Florida during Hurricane season, or Oklahoma in Tornado Season, Or along the seacoast after a Tsunami. We here on the West coast consider the potential of an earthquake to be just one of the factors in living here. I have been here for over sixty years and probably five earthquakes beyond a 5.0. I have never lost anything to an earthquake, and I have gained much in my life in the sunny climate of Southern California.

i became at artwork while the Northridge quake happened. i became in a wellbeing center and that they have got many emergency drills. I made rounds of all the affected person's rooms to confirm no person have been injured by ability of any broken glass or falling gadgets. genuinely everyone became secure, however the construction had sustained some important cracks. i found out then that our residing house windows have been plexiglass so that they buckled, yet didnt ruin. i've got lived in California maximum of my existence and function long undergone fairly some earthquakes, so didnt experience any emotional reprocussions. different than some cracks in my condominium construction and broken knickknacks, didnt go through any financial problems. The earthquake didnt final that long and that i became nonetheless doing room tests while it became throughout. a number of the aftershocks have been incredibly extreme, yet not something to talk approximately. speaking approximately some thing I won from the experieince may be all of my kin back East who referred to as to confirm i became ok. They love me. i think that still solutions your final question. i'm hoping somebody who became in those homes that have been destroyed in Northridge is in YA and can furnish you with an more suitable interview.

Because Los Angeles is a good city, I was born there so I only have the positive things to say about it. I'll ignore the negative just to move there!

Why do people still live in FL? Hurricanes every year! Midwest? snow and tornadoes! East Coast? Floods and Snow Storms!
Pick your poison. It depends on what you enjoy and how that is balanced by the potential of natural (or man-made) disasters.
I've lived in many parts of the country and will forgo many of the other natural disasters to enjoy the coastline and weather of southern California risking the potential earthquake sometime in the future.
If you live in constant fear of the unknown you are not living!
