You can find facts about tornadoes in that particular state by clicking HERE

http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=kentucky+tornadoes&ei=UTF-8&fr=FP-tab-web-t&x=wrt

as well as follow the links on those pages to find the tornado stats for other states as well, if that is the element you wish to avoid in your move.

All states have *something* worthy of being avoided, but yes, you are wise to try to avoid tornadoes!

From one who has been given a tornado *lift* and would not like a second *ride*! :P LOL

The answer is NO... There are good deal of thunderstorms, but once you get into the hills and out of the gulf coastal plain of Arkansas, Lousiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, and Alabama, or the Great Plains of Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska, the frequency of tornadoes drops off considerably. Those places are bad because that's where cold Canadian or even polar air collides with warm moist air coming from the Gulf and Mexico. But, being in the hills of Eastern KY you should be fine. It's very difficult for tornadoes to form over rugged terrain.

Do worry, however, about the hill people.... Ever seen Deliverance? Eastern KY is kind of like that....

Not so bad for tornadoes, but we are bad for thunderstorms, especially lately, don't know what's going on.
Oh by the way, I live about an hour away from Somerset. Hope this helps.

My in-laws live in the Radcliff/Elizabethtown area, close to Fort Knox and I have noticed there seems to be an abundance of terrible storms in that area. I have only experienced tornado like winds one time while visiting them.
I'm a person who doesn't like storms, so for me to be willing to go back to any part of KY eastern or otherwise says a lot! :)
I do know that though Radcliff and Somerset are roughly a hundred miles apart it always seems that if they got wheather my in laws were getting it and vise versa.

I believe that area is actually south of Tornado Alley, you will get hammered with Thunderstorms though. This part of the year has been especially bad, but generally mid to late spring is the worst part of the year for storms.
